Before we write any code, we need to set up our environment.

Node.js is a JavaScript runtime built on Chrome’s V8 JavaScript engine. It is required by both our backend, Express/Node, and our frontend build tools, React.

  1. From the official Node.js website, download the Long Term Support (LTS) version.
  2. Follow the installation instructions for your operating system: Windows, macOS or Linux.
  3. Verify that it installed correctly by opening your terminal or command prompt and typing:

node -v

npm -v

You should see the version numbers for Node and npm (Node Package Manager).

1.2 Installing a Code Editor
