FAQs

These three are crucial for Java development and execution.

  • The Java Virtual Machine runs Java bytecode, enabling Java to work on any platform. Makes Java work on any platform.
  • The Java Runtime Environment includes the Java Virtual Machine and libraries needed for Java applications to run.
  • The Java Development Kit has the Java Runtime Environment and tools that developers use to create Java applications.
  • Java follows the “Write Once, Run Anywhere” principle.
  • Java code is turned into bytecode, which can run on any system with the Java Virtual Machine installed.

There are four concepts in Object-Oriented Programming in Java.

These are:

  • Encapsulation – Protects data by disallowing direct access.
  • Inheritance – Allows code reuse between classes.
  • Polymorphism – Supports multiple forms of methods or behaviours.
  • Abstraction – Hides internal implementation details.
  • Both == and .equals() compare things, but they work differently. They do not work the same way.
  • == Looks at the memory location of objects.
  • .Equals() looks at the values or content of objects.

Strings in Java cannot be changed once created. This improves:

  • Security
  • Performance
  • Memory optimisation through string pooling.

Both are part of the Java Collection Framework.

  • ArrayList is faster for accessing data.
  • LinkedList is better for inserting and deleting elements frequently.

These terms may sound similar, but they serve distinct purposes.

  • final is used to declare constants, prevent inheritance, or stop method overriding.
  • finally is a block that always executes after try-catch.
  • finalize() is a method called before garbage collection.

Java exceptions are divided into two types: Checked and Unchecked.

  • Checked Exceptions are caught during compile time, such as IOException.
    • Example: IOException
  • Unchecked Exceptions occur during runtime, like NullPointerException.
    • Example: NullPointerException
  • StringBuilder and StringBuffer are used to create mutable strings in Java.
  • StringBuffer is safe to use with threads, but it’s slower.
  • StringBuilder is faster. StringBuilder is faster, but not safe to use with many threads.
  • Garbage Collection is a memory management process in Java.
  • It removes Java objects from memory to improve application performance and optimize system resources.
